7 Underrated Bollywood Travel Movies To Satisfy Your Wanderlust!

A global pandemic spoiled all the travel plans we had and locked us up in the four walls of our house. Since we couldn’t go out, we ended up watching a lot of movies. This is when I came across some amazing travel movies that you MUST watch to trigger the wanderlust in you. Now, I am not speaking about Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara or Tamasha or Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani or Dil Chahta Hai. I am speaking about some feel-good travel movies that are kind of underrated and aren’t appreciated much.

So, till you get fully vaccinated and wait for your friends to agree to your travel plans, here are 7 movies that you can watch. (Prepare the itinerary side by side and be ready to travel!)

1. Karwaan

Karwaan had to be on top of the list. Irrfan Khan, Dulquer Salman, and Mithila Palkar gave us a movie for a lifetime. This is the road trip I am craving for with my best friends! Three different people embark on a journey that ends in self discovery. Light hearted story complimented well with aesthetic lush green frames, this film covers places like Ooty, Coimbatore, Thrissur and Cochin. An unplanned road trip taken as Avinash, played by Dulquer, gets the news of his father’s death and to complicate it, his dad’s body gets replaced by another body of an old lady. This is when they embark on a road trip from Bangalore to Kochi to return the body.

P.s:- If the aesthetic beauty wasn’t enough, the film has really beautiful and soul-soothing songs to compliment it too.

2. Qarib Qarib Singlle

We just can’t have enough of Irrfan Khan right? Here, Qarib Qarib Singlle is yet another film that really hits the right notes in your mind. Two complete strangers who met through a dating app go on a trip together. It won’t be wrong to call this film a mini traveler’s guide that will take you from Bikaner to Gangtok. Yes! You will experience the hospitality of Rajasthan in Bikaner and Alwar, will experience the beauty and adventure of Dehradun and Rishikesh, and will finally end your journey in the ever so alluring Gangtok.

(Already wanting to pack your bags and leave?)

3. Piku

It seems Irrfan Khan was made for films like these. Piku starring Deepika Padukone, Irrfan Khan, and the legendary Amitabh Bachchan isn’t actually a travel film, but it takes you on a soulful Delhi to Kolkata road trip. It takes you through different states, crossing highways, stopping over at the sacred city Varanasi, the Yamuna expressway, the blissful cycle ride through the lanes of Kolkata, the mouth-watering street foods and soul-soothing walks alongside the Hooghly river. How can one not fall in love with films like these?

4. Finding Fanny

If you belong to a group that loves going offbeat and exploring the unexplored, then you will love Finding Fanny. This harmless comedy film stars Arjun Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Dimple Kapadia, Naseeruddin Shah, and Pankaj Kapur. It takes you through the unexplored Goan lands and you will be amazed to see some beautiful places like Three King’s Church, Lisbon House in Assagao, Divar Island, St Jacinto Bridge, and Siolim bridge!

5. Chalo Dilli

Sometimes missing a flight isn’t that bad, and the film Chalo Dilli is the best example. Lara Dutta misses her flight to Delhi and that’s how she ends up with Vinay Gupta. They then embark on a road journey to Delhi, relishing the local food, developing a unique friendship, going through some interesting adventures, some crazy experiences on road, and a trip through the urban metro of Mumbai and rural parts of Rajasthan to finally, Delhi.

6. Dhanak

Dhanak is a beautiful story of a blind brother and a sister who wants to give him eyesight before he turns 9. She leaves on a hitchhiking journey from a village in Jaitaran to Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. She is hopeful that SRK who is shooting for a film there will help her brother. The film will give you the experience of the typical rural culture and lifestyle of Rajasthan. You will see life in huts, falling asleep under the starry sky, the food cooked in a wood-fired mud oven, the blue city of Jodhpur, and the deserts of Jaisalmer. This film will be an experience in itself.

7. Road, Movie

Abhay Deol who plays Vishnu in Road, Movie was desperate to find an escape from his boring life. This was when he sets out on a journey to deliver a truck to a museum and lands up discovering himself. It will give you a proper view of contemporary India. This film is quite colorful and engaging. The culture of rural areas of Rajasthan, the vast deserts, and the love of cinema is amongst the few experiences you will get from the film.

So, these are the perfect travel movies that you shouldn’t miss. Also, do not forget that Farhan Akhtar is soon coming with a female road trip film starring Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, and Katrina Kaif! We are eagerly waiting for the same too!!!!
