10 Bollywood Biopics We Are Waiting For!

2021 is officially the year of biopics! From Alia Bhatt to Vicky Kaushal, all the biggest stars are gearing up to portray some of the most notable Indian personalities, and we cannot wait to see the magic on screen! 

1. Gangubai Kathiawadi 

An adaptation of the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai by Hussain Zaidi, this movie brings together Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt for the first time. The film is all set to release on 30 July, 2021, and is a story of Gangubai Kothewali.

2.  Sam Bahadur 

This yet-unnamed biopic will see Meghna Gulzar and Vicky Kaushal teaming up after Raazi, where Vicky will be playing India’s first Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. As we have seen in Uri and Raazi, Vicky oozes charm in army roles, and we are eagerly waiting for this one too. 

3.  Rocketry – The Nambi Effect 

Based on the life of Nambi Narayanan, a former scientist and aerospace engineer of the Indian Space Research Organisation, this film is written, directed and produced by actor R. Madhavan. Nambi Narayanan was once accused of espionage, and we are excited to see how Madhavan portrays this role. The film also stars Shah Rukh Khan in a cameo role. 

4. Shershaah     

We love all and every movie based on Param Vir Chakra awardee and army captain Vikram Batra’s life, and Shershaah is no exception. This 2 July 2021release will star Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani in lead roles. 

5. Thalaivi

A biographical movie based on J. Jayalalithaa, a popular politician and film actress who served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thalaivi will be released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Kangana Ranaut will play the titular role, with Arvind Swami and Nassar in supporting roles.

6. Pippa

Based on the life of Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta, a veteren of the war of 1971 against Pakistan, Pippa will star Ishaan Khatter in the lead role, with Mrunal Thakur and Priyanshu Painyuli in supporting roles. 

7.  ‘83

Kabir Khan is helming ‘83, a heroic tale of the Indian cricket team who brought home the World Cup for the country. With Ranveer Singh looking dapper as Kapil Dev and Deepika Padukone in the role of his wife, the film stars a number of actors, singers, and performers taking up various roles in the team.

8.  Sardar Udham Singh

This biopic is about one Udham Singh, who assassinated  Michael O’Dwyer in London to take revenge for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Vicky Kaushal stars as Udham Singh, and the film is directed by Shoojit Sircar. 

9. Shabaash Mithu

Taapsee Pannu will be seen in another sports flick, this time a biographic based on cricketer Mithali Raj’s life. While not much is known about the film, we know that Rahul Dholakia is supposed to direct the film. 

10. Maidaan

Based on the life of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, Maidaan stars Ajay Devgn and Priyamani. The film, directed and written by Amit Ravindrenath Sharma and produced by Boney Kapoor, is about the football coach who is said to have been the architect of modern Indian football. The film is set to release on 15 October 2021.
