The dreaded day is finally here. Valentine’s Day, or as singles like to call it, a holiday crafted by corporations to sell us products we don’t really need. While everyone else will go on dates, or give their special someone something cheesy, or sing songs for them, what will singles do? Make fun of them while actually crying inside (we are kidding). Or maybe just watch movies like it’s every other weekend. But what if we could own this day as singles? Take a look at this list of Bollywood movies that prove being single is the best.
1. Dear Zindagi
Kaira (Alia Bhatt) is the manifestation of every millennial employee experiencing burnout from work, with a horde of mental problems to name and just looking to escape. Her mental health issues lead her to Goa and Dr. Jehangir Khan (Shah Rukh Khan), who helps her unravel the obstacles in life and live life to the fullest.
A heartbroken Rani (Kangana Ranaut) meets Vijaylaxmi (Lisa Haydon) on her solo trip to Paris and gains a lifelong friend. Vijaylaxmi coaxes Rani out of her shell and teaches her how to make mistakes, but still comes out of it partying. When Vijaylaxmi says ‘Vijay nai to kya hua, Vijaylaxmi to hai‘ , we know that females can also have everlasting friendships. Queen is a brilliant film that shows the importance of getting out on your own, and self-love.
3. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Three friends, and one epic trip – we all want to live this dream don’t we? Arjun (Hrithik Roshan), Kabir (Abhay Deol), and Imran (Farhan Akhtar) plan an epic bachelor trip for Kabir to Spain, where they each face their fears, learn what is worth living, and how to let go once in a while. They also get gorgeous girls, but better not concentrate too much on that part over Farhan’s soothing voice.
4. Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu
A drunken night leads to marriage in Vegas for Rahul (Imran Khan) and Riana (Kareena Kapoor). Overbearing parents, unemployment, and lies put the couple in trouble, and Rahul’s growing feelings don’t help the matter. In a refreshing take on love in Bollywood, Riana wants to just be friends, and Rahul agrees and they move on with their lives. So if anyone out there is reeling from rejections, know how to take rejection with dignity and be like Rahul.
5. Meri Pyaari Bindu
Not every couple is destined to be together, and life often has a way of surprising lovers, as evident in Meri Pyari Bindu. Bindu (Parineeti Chopra) and Abhi (Ayushmann Khurrana) are childhood best friends, who turn lovers after a series of obstacles. Two artists in love eventually face reality and go on different paths, but remain friends in this timeless film.
