Headline: Bollywood stars who also care
Mirza’s made the headlines this week, when a video of her crying at the Jaipur LitFest went viral. She broke down while talking about climate change, saying “don’t be afraid of shedding your tears” for a cause this urgent. She’s always been environmentally conscious, worked with PETA and CRY, appointed as the Brand Ambassador to Wildlife Trust of India and UN Environment’s Goodwill Ambassador to India. She’s amazing.
And she’s not alone. Here are five celebrities who have also been contributing, in their way, to the environment:
1. Gul Panag
The actress has been vocal about her support for natural sources of energy and started the Col. Shamsher Singh Foundation, which gives back to society and the environment.
2. Rahul Bose
Rahul Bose is famous about his contributions to the environment, with his gogreen blog. He also represented Oxfam at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.
3. Nandita Das
The writer, director and actress is known for spreading awareness about rainwater harvesting. She collaborated with the Centre for Science and Environment, a Delhi-based NGO, and also made a 90 second film on the topic.
4. John Abraham
He’s not just the face of Garnier, he also supports their campaign to develop solar-powered electricity in rural India, while being a part of PETA. Looks and social awareness—he’s the whole package.
See, when you put it like THAT, I’ll let all the birds fly
5. Akshay Kumar
the leading Bollywood star has done his share for the environment—he’s supported the Swacch Bharat initiative, worked with the BMC to promote cleanliness, and is featured in ‘Hawa Aane De,’ the anthem for World Environmental Day in 2019.
