13 Films in 2021 to look forward to

2020 was a shitty year, both in terms of global pandemic and the lack of new film releases. The world virtually shut down, so a lot of film production was forced to be shut down as well. We missed out on a lot of great releases this year, but that means more awesome films to see in 2021! 

Here are some of the most exciting and amazing films lined up for release in 2021:

1. No Time To Die 

Expected release: April 2021

Daniel Craig will shine as 007 (maybe for the last time) is this espionage-spy thriller. From the director of True Blood and a cast that includes Rami Malek, Christoph Waltz and Lashana Lynch (the new 007), the film follows Craig who is back from retirement after a scientist goes missing. We honestly cannot wait for this one! 

2. A Quiet Place Part II

Expected release: April 2021

The Abbott family, who went through numerous horrors in the first part of the franchise, are all set to brave new horrors as they venture outside of their safe zone, and find out that the world is far deadlier than they prepared for. Cast includes Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Millicent Simmons, Noah Jupe and others. 

3. 83

Expected release: First quarter of 2021 

Celebrating the story of India’s World Cup victory of 1983, Kabir Khan is all set to bring us 83. With Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev and a cast of actors like Deepika Padukone, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Harrdy Sandhu, Boman Irani, this is one of the most awaited films of 2021. 

4. Sooryavanshi

Expected release: Jan-Mar 2021

DCP Veer Sooryavanshi (Akshay Kumar) teams up with Inspector Sangram Bhalerao (Ranveer Singh) and DCP Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgn) to stop a terror attack in Sooryavanshi. The cherry on the cake? The film is directed by Rohit Shetty, which means we are bound to have the most amazing time watching this blockbuster!

5. Black Widow

Expected release: May 7, 2021

Black Widow is finally getting her own film! Scarlett Johansson is set to reprise her role of Natasha Romanoff. The film is said to have been based on Romanoff’s time before the Avengers. David Harbour (Stranger Things) is playing Red Guardian, the Russian equivalent of Captain America and Florence Pugh (Little Women) is playing Yelena, who in the comics took on the title of Black Widow after Natasha. 

6. Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Expected release: June 2021

While the female reboot of Ghostbusters series did not receive a positive response, fans of the series will be stoked to learn that Afterlife is set to be a sequel to the original 1980s Ghostbusters films. Featuring Paul Rudd, Dan Aykroyd, McKenna Grace, and Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), the story follows a single mom and her kids moving to a farm in Oklahoma who learn about their ties to the OG Ghostbusters. 

7. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Expected release : July 2021

In a long line of exciting MCU releases is Shang-Chi, where Master of Kung Fu: Shang-Chi faces off against the Mandarin and his Ten Rings organization. Yes, Mandarin, who played the villainous character in Iron Man 3. Starring Simu Liu, Tony Leung, Awkwafina, etc, this Marvel’s Secret Wars comic book saga will be a sight to behold.

8. Dune

Expected release: October 2021

Based on Frank Herbert’s popular sci-fi novel and a reboot of the eponymous 1984 movie, Dune is set to release in the second half of 2021 after giving us a tantalizing trailer. The cast consists of Timothée Chalamet, Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, and Jason Momoa among others, and is a story of a young man caught in a power struggle on the planet Arrakis, where giant murderous sandworms and a battleground for control of the galaxy’s most precious resource, a performance-enhancing ‘spice’ called Melange awaits him. 

9. Mission Impossible 7

Expected release: November 2021

While the plot remains unknown, it’s easy to speculate that it will definitely involve Tom Cruise saving the world, yet again. With a cast of Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, and Esai Morales, it’ll be interesting to see what stunts cruise has in store for us. 

10. The Matrix 4

Expected release: December 2021

Keanu Reeves will be back in the Matrix – is anyone any other sweeter news? There’s no story leak yet, but we know that the fourth installment will consist of Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity), Jada Pinkett Smith, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra, and others will give us an experience of a lifetime! 

11. Takht

Expected release: December 2021

Starring Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Anil Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor, and Bhumi Pednekar in prominent roles, Takht is Karan Johar’s magnum opus. Set in the Mughal era, the story is of one Aurangzeb and his brother Dara’s, who are in the fight of their life for succession to the Mughal throne. 

12. Untitled Spider-Man: Far From Home Sequel

Expected release: December 17,  2021

While we are unsure about the plot, we know that Spider Man 3 is set to open up the multiverse. Jamie Foxx is playing Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Alfred Molina is returning as Doc Ock from Spider-Man 2, and even previous Spider-Men Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire are expected to have cameos.  Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is also supposed to have a minor role to play, and we cannot wait for this film to release! 

13. Brahmastra

Expected release: 2021

Ayan Mukerji’s fantasy film where Amitabh Bachchan plays Brahma, Ranbir Kapoor plays Shiva, and Nagarjuna will play Vishnu is a much-awaited film! Starring Alia Bhatt and Mouni Roy, this first part of a trilogy will have the usual KJo fanfare, so we are in for a treat!
