7 Lesser Known Facts About Deepika Padukone That Will Stun You

The queen of Bollywood is celebrating her birthday today! That’s right, Deepika Padukone – the diva, the superstar – was born on this day, and has graced us with her dazzling performances for years. With hit films like Om Shanti Om, Padmaavat, Ram Leela, YJHD, Bajirao Mastani, etc under her name, Deepika continues to shine as brightly as her smile, and we hope to see her in many more iconic roles for years to come! To celebrate this sunshine’s birthday, here are some lesser-known facts about her. 

1. Deepika wasn’t born in India, but in Copenhagen, Denmark. She and her family moved to Bangalore when she was just 11 months old.

2. While Deepika has no godfather in Bollywood, what she does have is a connection to legendary actor Guru Dutt! Yes, Guru Dutt (original name Vasanth Padukone) and Deepika belonged to the same Karnataka’s Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin community.


3. Her first break in the industry came in the form of the Liril ad, which kick-started her career.

4. Deepika truly is the best at everything she does, whether it’s acting or sports. Yes, before this beauty joined Bollywood, she was a national level badminton player.


5. Contrary to popular belief, Om Shanti Om is not Deepika’s first film; the title goes to a Kannada film named Aishwarya.

6. Himesh Reshammiya is indirectly responsible for Deepika’s debut in Om Shanti Om. Farah Khan, who was on the lookout for new talent, spotted Deepika in Himesh’s music video for the song ‘Naam Hai Tera Tera’ and decided to cast her. 

7. Deepika has adopted the Ambegaon village in Maharashtra, showing us that she is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside!
