Horror, Terror, and Comedy: March 2021 Releases are full of surprises

While we dread March 2021 as we are now officially entering a year of lockdown due to COVID. So much has changed in the year, but what hasn’t changed is the slew of tv shows and movies that manage to entertain us. March is full of surprises and has everything for everyone. There’s a supernatural Sherlock Holmes show, Eddie Murphy’s comedy, a show paying homage to doctors during 26/11, and a horror-comedy among other things. This march is better than last year’s.

1. Coming 2 America, Amazon Prime Video 

Coming to America (1985), one of the great comedy movies on Amazon Prime Video featuring Eddie Murphy’s great comedy Coming to America is getting a sequel, where African monarch Akeem learns he has a son in the United States and returns to America to meet his heir. We are in doubt that Eddie Murphy will make us laugh with delight in this amazing sequel.

2. Bombay Begums, Netflix

Netflix’s Bombay Begums drops on International Women’s Day and revolves around 5 women who break societal norms and smash the patriarchy. Starring Pooja Bhatt, Shahana Goswami, Amruta Subhash, Plabita Borthakur, and Aadhya Anand, the trailer of the show has left everyone in intrigue, and we cannot wait to see how the story of these ambitious women in Bombay unfolds.

When: March 8

3. Roohi

A comedy horror starring Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor, and Varun Sharma, Roohi is a chilling tale of a ghost who kidnaps brides on their honeymoon. A highly anticipated film, it will be released on the big screen after being rescheduled many times. We cannot wait to see the magic of Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor together.

4. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Disney+Hotstar

This highly anticipated drama follows Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) after the events of Avengers; Endgame. Sam was previously handed the mantle of Captain America by Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) himself, and together with Bucky, the duo sets out to fight Flag Smashers, a group hell-bent on terrorizing the world.

5. Sky Rojo, Netflix

From the creators of Money Heist comes another Spanish thriller, this one about the underbelly of prostitution. With Verónica Sánchez, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Asier Etxeandia, the story is about a trio of prostitutes who are forced to flee from their pimp after a particularly devastating incident. The show is set to showcase the brutal reality of prostitutes and is bound to be a show worth watching.

6. Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar

After many reschedules, this Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra starrer is finally getting a release on March 19th. Coming from very different backgrounds, the characters are together in their hate for each other, but destiny has other plans for the duo.

7. Mumbai Saga

With a loaded star cast of Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, John Abraham, and Emraan Hashmi, this Sanjay Gupta film revolves around the Mumbai of the 80s and 90s. As the mills are closing down and gangs are in abundance, the film talks about the changing city and how everyone is evolving with it. Anyone looking for action and adventure must surely watch this high-intensity drama unfold.

8. Mumbai Diaries 26/11, Amazon Prime Video

26/11 was a horrendous day in the history of India, as terrorists attacked Mumbai and took the lives of innocent people and brave policemen. While we applaud the bravery of our men in uniform, there are some unsung heroes we often forget-  the doctors, nurses, and paramedics – the first responders who saved countless lives. Starring Konkana Sen Sharma, Mohit Raina, Tina Desai, and Shreya Dhanwanthary, this series is a must-watch.

When: March 21

9. Pagglait, Netflix

Sandhya (Sanya Malhotra) has just lost her husband, but surprisingly, she is not sad or in tears. This has gobsmacked her family, and even herself, but that will not stop this young widow from trying to break free from society’s wishes, and find herself in a sea of people. Funny yet eye-opening, this film also stars Ashutosh Rana, Sheeba Chaddha, Raghubir Yadav, and Sayani Gupta.

When: March 26

10. The Irregulars, Netflix 

Sherlock Holmes has always been an intriguing character, and any show involving this detective is always, always worth a watch. In The Irregulars, a group of teenagers take up supernatural cases from Dr. Watson, and solve them, sometimes even putting their lives in jeopardy. But who gets the credit? Sherlock Holmes, of course! We are as intrigued as you are.
