Valentine’s Week: 7 Love Triangle Bollywood Movies To Watch

Tried, tested, and done to death, the age-old Bollywood formula of a love triangle never fails to miss a mark with the Indian audience. Why have two people live happily ever after when you could introduce another angle just to make their life way harder than it needs to be? Bollywood loves playing god, and we can go on and on about the hundreds of love triangle movies we have been subjected to watch. Instead, this Valentine’s week, let’s look at some of the classic, offbeat, and truly memorable love triangle Bollywood movies. Brace yourself.

1. Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster

A retelling of the original Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam, this film is one of the brilliant movies that captures extramarital affairs in a sensuous yet realistic manner. With a cast that includes Jimmy Sheirgill, Randeep Hooda, and Mahi Gill in a battle of love, deception, politics, and sex, this film captures the intricacies of a dying royal family, and their enemies ready to pounce at any moment.

2. Ishqiya

Who says a good and intriguing love triangle needs scenic backgrounds, Shah Rukh Khan, and a sappy love story? Nah, all it needs is Vidya Balan, Naseeruddin Shah, and Arshad Warsi. Here, Vidya Balan takes up the role of a recently widowed woman who seduces two men – TWO! – to do her bidding. Cutting itself away from traditional love triangles, this story is based entirely on sex, thriller, and deception, and the stars make it come alive as no one else could.

3. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Yes we have all seen it. Yes we have cried when Kajol realizes that no amount of best friend crap will stand a chance to an NRI daughter of the Principal who recites shlokas and looks like Rani Mukherji. Fast forward a few years, try to become a ‘girly’ girl, and not one, but 2 guys will come running for you, because why give a woman some characterization when you can just give her a makeover. Even so, this classic is like a rite of passage in the world of love triangles, so give it a watch.

4. Devdas

Another set of gorgeous women in love with Shah Rukh Khan. What else is new? Naam, khoon and khandan form the obstacles in these love stories, but we think all the heavy jewelry must have also played a part. I mean, who can run and spout poetry while wearing an entire Tanishq store? For nothing else, watch Devdas for the brilliance of Madhuri Dixit, and the love story between Dev Babu and his daaru

5. Dhadkan

How to make yet ANOTHER love triangle but make it seem like it’s not copied? Put in heartbreaking songs, that’s how. Rich girl is in love with a poor boy, enraged father, rich girl marries rich guy, rich guy is super sanskari, rich girl falls in love with a rich boy, enters poor boy who is not rich, triangle ensues. Honestly, the one question we have is how did Suniel Shetty become so rich so fast? Cmon Suniel, give up the secret already!

The OG love triangle, where Amitabh Bachchan has to leave the love of his life (Rekha) to marry his dead brother’s pregnant fiancée (Jaya). Tensions arise when he meets Rekha (who is married too) and they begin having an extra-marital affair. Unsurprisingly, Jayaji takes her cheating husband back, because, you know, pati parmeshwar

Geet (Kareena Kapoor) meets a suicidal Aditya (Shahid Kapoor), she talks a lot, Aditya falls in love with her, but wait. Geet is running away to her beau Anshuman, who promptly dumps her on the spot. Aditya is unaware, so he is sad. Geet is sad. Anshuman is….an a**hole.
