We love boycotting things, but sometimes they end up with us with embarrassing mistakes that we would sooner forget. In one such incident, Desi twitter ended up confused between two people of the same name, and the results were hilarious.
Author Tom Holland shared his opinion on the fact that the cricket stadium in Gujarat’s Motera was renamed the Narendra Modi Stadium on twitter. People promptly assumed it was Tom Holland, who plays Spiderman in eponymous film series. Enraged, they started trending #boycottspiderman, without knowing who the author Tom Holland is.
I’m a huge admirer of the modesty Modi showed in naming the world’s largest cricket stadium after himself.

That’s it – I’m never going to watch a Spiderman film again! Some sacrifices have to be made… Country 1st… Movie later https://t.co/05m6Qebzvs

This is India’s internal matter. We will teach you a lesson of lifetime.#boycottspiderman

Many soon understood why spiderman was trending, and they took to making fun.

I am convinced that this is a conspiracy by DC, trying hurt Marvel’s revenue from India. #BoycottSpiderman has already started trending in India 😂😂

Wait…Spiderman is from JNU? https://t.co/iw0cnSxaMo

— Dhiraj (@AAPlogical) February 25, 2021
Spiders are foreign agents! https://t.co/g9PGZ3f1ri
‘Author’ Tom Holland also tweeted to clarify the situation, in his own hilarious way.
My campaign to get all those superhero films cancelled proceeds apace, mwah ha ha ha! https://t.co/muq9kxzTrX
— Tom Holland (@holland_tom) February 24, 2021
Oh dear – I seem single-handedly to have destroyed prospects for the next Spider-Man in India. https://t.co/VKrO2O8PeO
— Tom Holland (@holland_tom) February 25, 2021
My apologies to @SpiderManMovie. I should have remembered that with great power comes great responsibility.
— Tom Holland (@holland_tom) February 25, 2021
Just for the record, & to save Marvel’s profits in India, I freely acknowledge that Narendra Modi is a man of immense humility, and that his naming the world’s largest cricket stadium after himself is in no way quite hilariously immodest.
