10 Filmy Gaane to Add to Your Janmashtami Playlist

It’s Janmashtami, the start of a new year. Hopefully this year won’t be as awful as the last year and hopefully it will be a good, auspicious one. Although we won’t be able to step out and enjoy any matka-breaking this year, the one thing we can do is celebrate at home, with our families.

So, I advise you to dress up for Janmashtami, whether you have pooja or not, eat some good mithai, and play some good festive songs. And to help with your musical evening, here are 10 filmy gaane that are perfect for Krisha puja:

Woh Kisna Hai, Kisna

What better song to play on Janmashtami than Woh Kisna Hai, a song literally dedicated to the God? Sung by Sukhwinder Singh and SP Shailiaja, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, this song is an immortal hit.

Radha Kaise Na Jale, Lagaan

In what has to be one of Asha Bhosle’s most fun numbers, Radha Kaise Na Jale is from Lagaan. The song is adorable, and Gracy Singh as a jealous Radha singing to a handsome Amir Khan makes for a fantastic garba dance.

Mohe Panghat pe, Mughal e Azam

Anarkali’s debut song in Mughal e Azam is the performance that won Salim and Akbar’s hearts. Lata Mangeshkar’s voice makes for a soulful melody and Anarkali dances for the entire Mughal courtroom gracefully. This is probably one of the most iconic Bollywood songs of all time.

Radhe Radhe, Dream Girl

The Meet Bros composed and sang Radhe Radhe for the Ayushmann starrer, Dream Girl, in 2019. A really fun pop song that fuses classical with electronic music, Radhe Radhe is perfect if you wanna get down this evening.

Radha, SOTY

While we’re on the topic of fun, dance-worthy Janmashtami songs, why not add Radha to the playlist? Remember how big this song was when it was out? Vishal-Shekhar composed this hit song and with Shreya Ghoshal and Udit Narayan lending their voices to it, it’s become an all time favourite.

Govinda Aala Re Aala, Bluff Master

From the OG Bluff Master movie in 1963, Govinda Aala Re Aala is like the epitome of Krishna Janmashtami music. Shammi Kapoor’s handsome face and dancing combined with Mohammad Rafi’s melodious voice gave us a hit song that is still played, almost 60 years later.

Jeetega Wohi Jisme Hai Dum

From the 1993 movie Sangram, Jeetega Wohi Jisme Hai Dum is a super fun song sung by our 90s faves: Kumar Sanu and Kavita Krishnamurthy, with Ajay Devgan and Karishma Kapoor bringing it to life. Perfect for a family party!

Mohe Rang Do Laal, Bajirao Mastani

Composed by the legend Pandit Brju Maharaj, Mohe Rang Do Laal is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s response to K Asif’s Mohe Panghat Pe. Deepika looks divine in this song and her kathak is as graceful as her facial expressions are. Shreya Ghoshal’s singing is at its peak; when she sings classical music it takes our breath away. Definitely invokes Krishna!

Mach Gaya Shor Sari Nagri Se, Khud-Daar

Kishore da and Lata ji are the best duet makers. In this iconic sung that features Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman for the 1982 film Khud-Daar, Mach Gaya Shor Sari Nagri Se captures all the best parts of Krishna Janmashtami: running through the neighbourhood and climbing the matka pyramid.

Radha Nachegi, Tevar

Sajid-Wajid composed a brilliant Janmashtami song, full of pomp and festivity. With Sonakshi Sinha dancing to this really fun Bollywood hit number, Radha Nachegi is perfect for tonight, because it will uplift your mood and, hey, everyone knows the chorus, right?

So, there you go. Happy Janmashtami! Bring Kanhaiya home, dress up and celebrate this happy occasion. God knows we all deserve it.
