On 25 September 2020, SP Balasubrahmanyam, one of the greatest Indian singers of all time, passed away due to health complications. What he left behind, besides a grieving nation, is a plethora of beautiful music and a gap in all our hearts.
There was nothing that SPB couldn’t sing — classical, filmy, commercial — and no language that he couldn’t conquer through his music. His melodious voice flowed in the Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam film industries, and 16 other languages.
Although we are terribly upset that the great singer is no more, we are grateful that we can turn on his music at any time and remember him.
Here are some songs by him that we absolutely love:
Pehla Pehla Pyaar – Hum Aapke Hai Kon
Hum Bane Tum Bane – Ek Duuje Ke Liye
Mouna Ragam – Nilavae Vaa
Munnettam – Chirikondu pothiyum
En Kadhalae – Duet
Minnale Nee Vanthathenadi – May Madham
Tere Mere Beech Mein – Ek Duuje Ke Liye
Today, we lost one of the greats. But we don’t have to be sorrowful about it; we must be grateful that he created such beautiful music over the years. His melodious voice expressed every emotion with such beauty, such grace, such tenderness, that we will hold onto his songs and remember that we were lucky enough to experience such a great singer in our lifetime.
RIP SP Balasubrahmanyam. You shall be terribly missed.
