After 3 outstanding seasons, expectations for The Crown S4 were high, and suffice to say, it did not disappoint. As we awaited the entrance of Princess Diana, one of the most famed yet controversial figures in British history, and her tumultuous relationship with the royal family, other storylines also make your heads turn. While the Queen (Olivia Colman) finds her relationship with Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (Gillian Anderson) becoming arduous, Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) tries to fulfill his royal duties by finding a ‘suitable wife’.
If you want to explore memorable moments from Season 4 ahead of watching it, or just want to remember those moments, we bring you some of the most memorable moments of the season.

Horrifically, Louis Mountbatten (Charles Dance), Earl Mountbatten of Burma is killed in a bomb blast as part of an assassination plot by the IRA in Ireland. Prince Charles in particular is shaken by his death, as they had a close relationship, and in a scene following the bombing, he is shown reading a letter from his grandfather where he asks Charles to find a suitable wife.
2. Margaret Thatcher and The Queen

The Queen and the Prime Minister’s relationship often appeared strained, as the Windsors sneer at the grocer’s daughter, while Thatcher is seen telling her husband: “I’m struggling to find any redeeming features in these people at all. They aren’t sophisticated or cultured or elegant or anything close to an ideal.”
3. An unwanted visitor

In 1982, the Queen wakes up to find an unknown person in her bedroom, who is none other than the infamous Michael Fagan. In The Crown, he asks the queen to take a look at how Margaret Thatcher is damaging the country, but as Fagan himself admits, the showrunners have taken a lot of artistic license with the facts.
4. Camilla’s tired

After Princess Diana’s soaring popularity, Camilla Shand (later Camilla Parker Bowles) realizes that she can never compete with her and win. In one of the most heartbreaking scenes, we can see Camilla tell Charles she can never be with the Prince permanently because competing with Diana will see her “humiliated and attacked”.
She says: “That’s what will happen if you put me in a popularity contest with her – I will lose. I’m an old woman, I’m a married woman, nowhere near as pretty, nowhere near as radiant. She will always defeat me in the court of public opinion.”
5. Philp and Diana

When Diana tells her father-in-law Prince Philip (Tobias Menzies) that she plans to leave Charles, he responds by saying: “I wouldn’t do that if I were you … let’s just say, I can’t see it ending well for you.” Diana asks: “I hope that isn’t a threat, sir?”, but Philip does not reply. While there is no proof that Philip had anything to do with Diana’s death, such theories often sprouted after the Princess’ untimely demise.
