Thank God for TV and thank God for OTT platforms. TV-watching has never been this exciting before because there simply haven’t been these many options before, like, ever. There are new OTT platforms springing up by the minute now and we always have new shows to look forward to. Besides, Netflix and Prime’s competitive nature is just great for us, because both platforms have announced a roster of new series that will be out soon.
Here are some new web series releasing soon, which will definitely brighten up our shitty 2020:
Masaba Masaba – Netflix
Famed fashion designer Masaba Gupta is to star in a Netflix series titled “Masaba Masaba.” In a world where everyone’s expected to fit in, Masaba always takes the road not taken. Her unconventionality is what has made her a trendsetter. This series seems different from anything we’ve seen before, so we’re super pumped for it. Should release soon (hopefully this year)!
Bandish Bandits – Amazon Prime
Amazon Prime’s new web series, Bandish Bandits, is all set to release on August 4. The ten part series follows two young musicians and how their different musical backgrounds plays a part in their love story. It’s created by Amritpal Singh Bindra, directed by Anand Tiwari, starring Ritwik Bhowmik, Shreya Chaudhry, Kunal Roy Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah Atul Kulkarni, Sheeba Chaddha and Rajesh Tailang. Best part? Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy are doing the music!
Bombay Begums – Netflix
Our favourite director Alankrita Shrivastava is back with a new web series titled Bombay Begums, starring Pooja Bhatt, Shahana Goswami, Amruta Subhash, Plabita Borthakur and Aadhya Anand. Under its official synopsis, it says “Five women across generations wrestle with desire, ethics, personal crises and vulnerabilities to own their ambition, in contemporary urban India. As glass ceilings are shattered, and hearts are broken, difficult choices have to be made. And as each woman strives to find her own truth, they find in each other an unexpected understanding, and the sliver of a bond.” Coming soon to Netflix!
Avrodh – SonyLiv
SonyLIV’s new web series Avrodh, all set to release on July 31st, is based on the actual story behind the Uri surgical strikes (because the film wasn’t enough?). The star cast includes Amit Sadh, Darshan Kumar, Madhurima Tuli, Neeraj Kabi, Anant Mahadevan, Vikram Gokhale, Arif Zakaria.
Dilli – Amazon Prime
Saif Ali Khan is back on our OTT screens and we are here for it! Dilli is Amazon Prime’s new thriller series which is slated to come out in October 2020. Gaurab Solanki wrote the show, and Khan’s costars include the talented Sunil Grover, Mohd Zeeshan Ayub and Sarah Jane Dias
The Last Hour – Amazon Prime
The Last Hour is a story set in a Himalayan hill station, making for a gripping thriller series whose release date is still TBD. With Sanjay Kapoor and Raima Sen in the leads, this series promises to be an exciting one.
Gormint – Amazon Prime
We cannot wait for this satirical series, Gormint. Starring Manav Kaul, Arshad Warsi, Shikha Talsania, Girish Kulkarni, Sulabha Arya, and Smita Jayakar, this show is a bold, funny take on the dismal state of Indian politics. Apparently, Irrfan Khan was first signed onto the series but later replaced by Kaul, for reasons unknown. We don’t know the release date yet, but we can’t wait.
Mumbai Diaries 26/11 – Amazon Prime
Inspired by the horrific terror attacks that plunged Bombay into darkness back in November 2008, Mumbai Diaries 26/11 is a thrilling series which tells this story on Amazon Prime. Nikhil Advani directs it, Konkana Sharma, Tina Desai and Mohit Raina star in it and it should be out soon for online streaming!
A Suitable Boy – Netflix
The six-part miniseries undertaken by Mira Nair will perform the mammoth task of bringing Vikram Seth’s iconic novel, A Suitable Boy, to life. Well, with Nair’s direction and a talented cast comprising of Tabu, Vijay Varma, Rasika Duggal, Ishan Khatter, Randeep Hooda, and Namit Das, we know that the incredible story is in good hands. A Suitable Boy will be out on Netflix in just 10 days — 26 July 2020!
