5 Indian comedy specials from 2020 to watch right now

While we were in great hopes of 2021 being radically different (read: less sucky) than 2020, let’s face it, 2021 is just an extended version of 2020. But, that’s no reason for us to be down, right? Not when we have the ever hilarious and relatable Indian comedian and their standup specials to cheer us up! Here are 5 Indian comedians from 2020 to watch for much-needed relief from life.

1. Don’t Tell Amma – Sumukhi Suresh

Sumukhi Suresh is the best kind of funny in this show where every South Indian girl (or most Indian girls, for that matter) will relate to her, hard. She talks about growing up with a strict Tamil mom, why she hates engineers and how women have no time for love or hate.

2.  Life Is Good – Ashish Shakya

Shakya has always been overlooked when he was a part of AIB, but now he’s really grown into his own. In this stand up special, Ashish is funny, Ashish is relatable, but more than that, he talks about everything from Shaktiman to porn.

3. Wake N’ Bake – Rohan Joshi

Rohan Joshi’s existential crisis at turning 36 make for a hilarious stand up special, where he apparently rolls his sleeves way too much, says ‘honestly’ a lot, and talks about everything from marriage to sex.

4. Yours Sincerely, Kanan Gill – Kanan Gill

Kanan Gill, like every one of us, made a list of goals when he was a kid. Did he achieve them? Were they even possible to achieve? Find out in this Netflix special where Kanan bares his life for laughs.

5. Relatively Relatable – Naveen Richard

From talking about how South Indians use Hindi in real life to the struggles of being scared of cockroaches, Naveen’s comedy special is truly relatable. But what truly stands out is his shirt, oddly reminiscent of Chandler Bing of F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
