January 2021 Releases: Vicky Kaushal, Bachchan Pandey and Swear Words Have A Blast

2021 is finally here! After the disaster that was 2020, we hope that 2021 is better than the last year, and what better way to celebrate the first month than to watch all the new releases? From the history of swear words to Pankaj Tripathi’s one-man struggle, January 2021 is jam-packed full of entertainment. 

1.  Ram Prasad Ki Tehrvi, Theatrical release

What happens when estranged relatives gather to mourn the death of Ram Prasad for 13 days under a roof? Secrets come to light, old wounds are opened, and the future seems distorted. With an ensemble of Naseeruddin Shah, Vinay Pathak, Vikrant Massey, Konkona Sen Sharma, and others, this promises to be a worthy watch.

2. Cobra Kai Season 3, Netflix

This highly anticipated sequel to the Karate Kid films will show the continued rivalry between  Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso, which started 34 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament. Starring Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Martin Kove, Mary Mouser, and others, we are waiting with bated breath for this one.

3. History of Swear Words, Netflix

This intriguing docuseries is hosted by Nicolas Cage, who takes us on a journey to the history and impact of swear words. Sounds fun, right? 

When: January 5

4. Kaagaz, Zee5

We cannot get enough of Pankaj Tripathi, who stars in this small-town drama about a man who is declared dead by the government and his mission to prove otherwise. Battling bureaucracy and society, the common man fights for his rights and is the real-life story of Lal Bihari.

When: January 7

5. American Gods Season 3, Amazon Prime Video

The adaptation based on Neil Gaiman’s book of the same name is being renewed for a new season, but creator Gaiman said that it diverts from the book quite a bit. Showing conflict between the Old Gods and the New, this fantasy show is one of intrigue and mystery.

When: January 11

6. WandaVision, Disney+Hotstar

MCU Phase 4 will start with a bang, where Wanda and Vision will give us a glimpse into their time-traveling life. There’s soul stone, there’s retro looks and the magic of the Scarlet Witch, all of which make for a stunning series to start off the year. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany star.

7. Tandav, Amazon Prime Video

A political thriller starring Saif Ali Khan, Tandav is perhaps the most anticipated January 2021 release. A nine-part series, not much is known about the plot, but politics and India are the two themes, so it cannot go wrong. Additional cast includes Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Grover, Mohd Zeeshan Ayub, Tigmanshu Dhulia, and Kritika Kamra.

When: January 15

8. Sardar Udham Singh, Theatrical Release

This biopic is about one Udham Singh, who assassinated  Michael O’Dwyer in London to take revenge for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Vicky Kaushal stars as Udham Singh, and is directed by Shoojit Sircar

9. Batwoman Season 2, Colors Infinity

As Ruby Rose quit the titular role of Batwoman,  Javicia Leslie takes on another role of Ryan Wilder who was also a Batwoman in the comics. With new foes and new characters, it will be interesting to see how Batwoman’s arc plays out.

When:  January 18

10. The White Tiger, Netflix

Based on Aravind Adiga’s Booker Prize-winning novel is the Priyanka Chopra and Rajkumar Rao starrer adaptation. Throwing light on the class divide that runs through India, it’s the story of one man’s journey from rags to riches. 

When: January 22

11. Jeet Ki Zidd, Zee5

This incredible and inspiring story of Kargil war hero, Major Deependra Singh Senger is already winning hearts with its trailer. Starring Amit Sadh, Amrita Puri, Sushant Singh, and Ali Goni, it shows the brutal hurdles a soldier goes through when life seems impossible.

When: January 22

12. Bachchan Pandey, Theatrical release

This multi starrer film is set to set the industry on fire, with a cast of Akshay Kumar, Kriti Sanon, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, and Pankaj Tripathi. Not much is known about the film except that Akshay Kumar stars as the eponymous character.
