F.R.I.E.N.D.S. should really be India’s National TV Show because every Indian has probably watched it, and most of us even learnt fluent English from it. We know every dialogue, every scene, every season from Rachel’s new hairdo or Ross’s next marriage/divorce.
And so, ever since on 13 February 1997 when the famous F.R.I.E.N.D.S. episode aired and Ross and Rachel took a break, a debate has been doing the rounds.
For 23 years, fans across the world cannot come to any conclusion on what really happened and who was right. See, here are the facts:
1. Ross became supremely insecure, possessive and jealous of Rachel, just because a friendly guy named Mark helped her get a job.
2. Anyway, Ross hated that guy
3. So one day when Ross and Rachel were arguing because, well, Ross was being unreasonable…
…the fight went on and on…
…until Rachel said:
Which was pretty rough for Ross. He was so upset that he went and had sex with the infamous “copy girl”
And when Rachel found out, it was one of the saddest F.R.I.E.N.D.S. episodes ever
While that was sad, the “we were on a break” debate provided some great content for future episodes.
the jokes went on all the way to the last episode
You get the point.
“Were they on a break?” has been the most viral question roaming around since the ’90s, definitely the most relevant one (who cares about wars and pandemics and growing poverty and fascist governments). But finally, finally, we at least hear what David Schwimmer has to say about it.
Schwimmer was on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show a few days ago and was asked what he truly thought of the situation. Without hesitating even for a second, Schwimmer said “there’s no question about it; they were on a break.”
So, that’s that. What do you think? Were they on a break? Were they not? Is there a right answer to this age-old question? Tell us on firstname.lastname@example.org
